FAQs - VISP

Can anyone participate in the VISP program?

Yes - Anyone with the ability to support the customer base that they build.

Do you provide training for new VISP program participants?

Yes - there are informational seminars for those considering participation in the VISP program. Training seminars for VISP program participants that desire training are also available - fees may apply to certain sessions.

How do I make it look as if we are providing all of the services to my customer?

All of the virtual servers for your domain look as if they are real, autonomous nodes within your domain. The dial-up numbers and modems have no identifying information that would lead one to suspect that they were not calling into your own network. You provide all of the documentation, software, etc. required for your customers - you personalize them to your company.

How do we administer customer accounts?

All administration and reporting functions are done through the WWW. We have developed a Web interface to the authentication and accounting databases to provide you with everything you need to administer your accounts.

The virtual mail server also provides a WWW interface, which allows you to create and maintain your customer’s mailboxes. The web interface is also available to your customers, allowing them to maintain their own mailboxes.

I am trying to dial-in, but the system keeps asking me to verify my user name and password.

This means that you have typed your username and/or password incorrectly. If you cannot remember your username and/or password please contact CyberLynk support.

Is there a limit to the number of customers that I can sign-up and support?

You are only limited by your own capabilities. We have no limits placed on VISP program participants. You may be limited for short periods of time, as we upgrade hardware to support your needs.

What expansion plans does CyberLynk have for expanding the area of coverage for dialup?

Currently, as you know, CyberLynk provides dialup in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha. We have plans to extend our reach to the Burlington/Waterford, Occonomowoc, West Bend, and Port Washington areas. These and other locations will be developed as the need develops.

What is expected of VISP program participants?

VISP program participants will be required to market their services, support their customers, and collect the required fees from their customers. VISP program participants are Internet Service Providers, and are independent contractors - they are in no way representatives of CyberLynk. VISP program participants must form a legal state recognized entity to conduct business with CyberLynk. A copy of your resale certificate or sellers permit must be submitted with your VISP program agreement. A merchant Credit Card account is recommended to accept credit cards for payment by your customers.

What is planed for backbone expansion on the CyberLynk network?

As our network grows, we will increase the ‘pipe’ to the Internet. We have already experienced a fast growth in bandwidth utilization, and have a set-point of 70% for expansion. Once we reach the 70% (average) point, we will start the process to add more connections, or a larger connection to the NAP.

What services/features are provided in the Introduction Package?

CyberLynk will provide the following:

a) Registration of your domain name. (Required to participate)
b) Hosting of your web site, anonymous ftp site, and virtual mail server.
c) WWW interface to create and maintain login accounts and email boxes.
d) WWW interface to reports and billing information.
e) Dialup access in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties.

Who owns my customers?

The VISP program participant owns their customers - CyberLynk makes no claim to the customers.

Your literature states that there are dial-up POP’s in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha. Can my customers use any one of those locations to gain access to the Internet?

We ask that you define a default POP for each new customer that you sign up. This is so we have an idea of how many callers will be using any one POP, and consequently maintain a good caller to modem ratio. Once your customers are entered into the login database, they can access the network from any POP on our network. They just need to call the correct phone number.
